Tension related headaches have become "the norm" for a lot of people, especially in today's high-paced, high-tech world. While it's true that many headaches are multifaceted in nature (meaning there are often several contributing factors playing a role in their existence), many can be relieved or alleviated by focusing manual therapies (massage, etc) on the scalp, neck and jaw muscles that refer pain sensations into the head.
Other factors to consider when plagued by intense or recurring headaches: • Water Intake -- ideally, drink at least 50% of your bodyweight (pounds) in ounces, daily (120 pounds = 60 oz., minimum) • Quality and Quantity of Sleep -- regular, undisturbed nights of sleep are the goal • Posture and Ergonomics -- avoid prolonged periods of awkward positioning, especially "head forward" posture • Nutrition -- excesses (such as sodium, caffeine, etc) or deficiencies (such as potassium, magnesium, etc) can contribute to other physiological responses in the body that can contribute to the onset of headaches • Etc.
