Garlic (Allium sativum) is such a wonderful plant and had so many incredible uses! Well known as an antibacterial agent, it can be beneficial for fighting food-borne germs and preventing the so called "24 hour flu*" when added to your meal. It has also been used historically as an expectorant, helping the body to break up and expel chest congestion during allergy attacks or illness. As a diaphoretic, garlic can help foster sweating, which can be beneficial during a general detoxification protocol. The antispasmodic properties of this delightful little plant can help those suffering from muscle spasm and general muscle tension. Acting as a nervine, garlic has purported benefits for the nervous system. Perhaps less favorable to some, unless you are prone to severe stomach or intestinal cramps and need relief, garlic can also help the body expel excess gas from the gastrointestinal tract. And there is so much more, which cannot be given due credit here (there have been entire books written about this stuff after all). The last important thought will share though, is that garlic is most beneficial when it's consumed raw, such as when it's minced and mingled with salads, guacamole, hummus, salsa, dressings and more.
