True wellness is three-fold, just as the body is a three-fold machine: MENTAL-PHYSICAL-SPIRITUAL.
When the physical body is run down, it effects both the mental and spiritual health too, and ultimately can make true healing difficult. That's where we come in as your faithful massage therapists. Receiving massage can help your body find it's physical equilibrium, which in turn can lead to whole healing. It all begins with you -- what you set your mind to do. Not sure where to start on your wellness journey? Give us a call and let us help you! There is power in positive thinking, especially when you find a good phrase to replace a negative one in your self-talk routine. Instead of saying, "I can't do it," say, "I can try," or "If I do this, it will get me half way to where I want to be." Think about the happy things, the silver lining. Think... think about the possibilities.
Did you know that migraines can be triggered by changes in the weather? Touch deprivation, or "touch hunger" as the term has been coined (Ashley Mantagu), is a very serious thing. And worse, our society is literally starving... worldwide! From infants, toddlers and grade school kids who spend most of their life away from loving parents and caregivers; to tweens, teens and twenty-somethings experimenting with negative, self-sabotaging sensory experiences due to lack of those that are good; to work-driven middle-agers; and lonely seniors at home, or in care facilities; positive, healthy, nurturing human-to-human contact is at an all time low. Yes, we can understand why, in a global culture that is now a melting pot for all that is good, and bad alike. Yet, in all of our efforts to protect the innocent, a real human need is being set aside with little good to replace it. That is, until professional massage therapy comes in.
In the vast majority of these United States there are regulations pertaining to the practice of massage therapy. Massage boards help ensure that professional therapists have met a specific standard of education, are citizens in good standing, have passed stringent competency exams, and maintain a professional code of ethics. All of these things combined help ensure that professional massage is a safe place for feeding the human need for touch. With few exceptions, humans simply need to experience positive, nurturing, healing touch, and at that, in regularity too. If you find that you are one of the millions who are touch deprived, or regularly experience "touch hunger" and do not have access to loving family or friends to give you a warm hug every now and again, then scheduling a regular, professional massage might be a very good thing for you. Keep in mind there are various modalities (types of massage) to choose from, and not all of them will be a right fit for you. Swedish massage is generally a lighter, flowing style used to induce relaxation and a sense of calm. Deep tissue massage uses moderate to firm pressure and generally is used to help relieve deep seated muscle tension. Trigger point therapy is light to firm pain specific bodywork that can stimulate discomfort to bring relaxation as an end result -- an excellent treatment for lingering discomfort or pain. There are hundreds more styles, and every therapist is different, so it may take a while to find a practitioner that is perfect for you, but we'd like to encourage you on your quest to do so... and be sure to encourage your friends and family too.
